Ancilla College
Address the question: In rural Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) students, what is the effect of participation in a series of multiple patient simulations on patient safety competencies as compared to baseline competencies over four weeks?Ball State University
Expand the Ball State University SON use of virtual environments for student learning experiences. Since 2008 the School has partnered with the University’s Institute for Digital Inter-media Arts to create and implement a School of Nursing Clinic on a private island in Second Life. Other areas in the technology project include: exploring other evolving virtual communities with a pilot in Blue Mars and the acquisition of an Electronic Medical Records system to accompany the virtual case studies and other simulations across the curriculum.
Central Alabama Community College
Actively engage students in their learning and maximize student education outcomes by incorporating 3D Virtual learning objects (VLOs) as an innovative teaching strategy. It is expected that students will; gain a basic understanding of the content, and be able to apply it in a simulation activity.
Christ Hospital School of Nursing
Implement a virtual environment in the classroom to allow students interaction with a virtual patient. This modality will foster critical thinking in a diverse student population. By integrating this new teaching modality, the student will be able to: Increase critical thinking skills; Identify processes needed to make sound clinical judgments; Incorporate quality and safety into practice; and Bridge the gap between theory and clinical.

Focus on enhancing the use of HITs across the graduate curriculum. This was accomplished by evaluating available HIT resources, and assessing faculty readiness to incorporate resources into online courses.

Utilize medium and high fidelity simulators to integrate the concept of QSEN’s patient-centered care, specifically culturally appropriate care, in scenarios performed in the laboratory setting.

Utilize the iPad/ iTouch and appropriate applications that will enhance the ESL students’ ability to comprehend medical terminology, definitions and idiomatic words, in order to understand class material and information in the clinical setting.
Johns Hopkins University
Pilot test varied simulation scenarios in the graduate Health Assessment course and explore advanced practice nursing students’ evaluation of simulation as a clinical learning tool. This would expose other graduate faculty to the benefits of simulation as well as provide an opportunity for them to comment and offer revisions as a form of peer review for the clinical content for the simulation.
Lander University
Develop a comprehensive information technology plan to integrate nursing informatics and the use of mid and high-fidelity simulation throughout all levels of the nursing curriculum in both the traditional and online RN-BSN options at a university in Greenwood, SC.
Lorain County Community College
Integrate concepts from lecture, lab and clinical to eliminate the lack of incorporation that now exists between these areas. The project will use case studies placed on the schools Learning Management System that will allow student interaction with a simulated patient online and in lecture, clinical and nursing laboratory settings.
Miami Dade College, School of Nursing
Incorporate HIT (Health Information Technology) and EHR (Electronic Health Record) into all components of an Associate Degree Nursing program located in an urban southeastern part of USA. All components of the nursing curriculum will demonstrate a seamless interface with the integration of HIT and EHR into the Associate Degree Nursing program.
Oakwood University
Integrate simulation in the nursing curriculum by providing a simulation laboratory to facilitate critical thinking, demonstrate QSEN competencies, and render the correlation between didactics and clinical knowledge. Simulation equipment includes high fidelity simulators adults, child, baby, a birthing model, and an intravenous administration model.
Old Dominion University
Provide students who miss a clinical experience with a realistic make-up alternative. The learning activity is conducted in an adult health / critical care simulation lab containing 5 high performance and 5 mid-level simulators, 10 bedside laptops, a medication dispenser, and strategically placed video cameras that record the student patient interactions.
Passaic County Community College
Explore innovative methods to incorporate the electronic medical record system technology into the curriculum. Students use the system on a weekly basis documenting community visits with their assigned geriatric client. Looking into the future, it is clear that we will need to continue to support the electronic medical record in the academic setting if we want our students prepared for clinical practice.
Research College of Nursing
Integrate low fidelity simulation technology and EHR utilizing a collaborative approach with students and instructors. The project encouraged interactive immersive experiences for students, supporting safety and quality in nursing education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Nursing
Create a faculty development program to prepare nursing faculty for a venture into virtual clinical simulation in both pediatric and mental health courses. An essential component in the success of the project was to engage faculty in this virtual world experience while demonstrating to them that clinical experiences in this setting were valuable and could offer students rich learning experiences with a focus on clinical reasoning and imagining.
University of New England
Address human factors including differences in training and experience as well as system failures in interprofessional communication. In partnership with nursing, pharmacy and social work faculty, a simulation case and companion e-learning platform was developed, piloted and evaluated to showcase the opportunities for interprofessional learning using these dynamic technologies.

Design a safe environment for Nurse Practitioner students to practice decision-making skills by utilizing standardized patients. The case studies focus on patient safety and proposed knowledge, skills and attitude for nursing education on Safety from Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN).
