Charlotte Weaver, RN, PhD

Charlotte Weaver, RN, PhD, vice president and executive director for nursing research, joined Cerner in July 1999 and served as the first chief nurse officer in the IT industry until May 2007, moving into this new and uniquely created role to foster nursing research. Charlotte’s informatics career started in academia at the University of Hawaii in 1981 and over the intervening 20+ years has covered every side of the industry – software supplier, consulting and provider in the US, Canada, and Australia. Prior to joining Cerner, Charlotte was director of the information services department at the MetroHealth System in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to that, she started and built a substantial healthcare IT consulting company in Australia. A frequent speaker at national and international conferences, and widely published on nursing informatics, patient safety and quality, evidence-based nursing practice, and bringing automation into our health professional curriculums. Charlotte’s latest publication is the award winning 2006 book of the year: Nursing and Informatics for the 21st Century: An International Look at Practice, Trends and the Future; Chicago: HIMSS Publishing 2006. Charlotte is an executive committee member of the TIGER Initiative (Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform) since 2004. Charlotte has been a long standing AMIA and NIWG member serving on the Corporate Task Force in 2005-2007; as the NIWG Nominating Committee Chair in 2005 and is currently serving as Secretary on the Nursing Informatics Working Group (NI-WG) Board. She serves as the corporate member to the International Medical Informatics Association, Nursing Informatics Working Group (IMIA_NI); and chairs the evidence-based nursing practice working group for IMIA_NI. Charlotte is a HIMSS Fellow, a member of the HIMSS’ Nursing Informatics (NI) and Health Information Exchange (HIE) Committees. She is a member of the Alliance for Nursing Informatics’ (ANI) Steering Committee and has served as the ANI representative to the Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) since HITSP’s inception in 2006. Charlotte received her Nursing degree from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, followed by a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and master’s degree in Epidemiology from the University of Washington. Charlotte earned her Ph.D. in Medical Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley and San Francisco, and completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Hawaii.

Linda Foster, MSN, RN

Linda Foster, MSN, RN, serves as the Quality Manager with the Veterans Health Administration's Office of Care Coordination. Linda provides staff support in the development, enhancement, and improvement of national standards, policies, and guidelines to improve the effectiveness and quality of Care Coordination programs. Linda provides support for Networks and field facilities by providing clinical program and policy consultation on care coordination. She conducts on-site visits to facilitate the development of collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches to accomplishment of the Office of Care Coordination's strategic plans and initiatives. Linda formerly served as the VISN 11 Care Management Program Coordinator, focusing on improving outcomes utilizing disease management, case management, transition management and clinical process improvement strategies. Other prior VA positions include Chief of Clinical Operations for Ambulatory Care and Chief of Care Coordination and Community Based Extended Care. Linda also has private sector experience in the areas of nursing administration, nursing information systems, staff development, professional nursing practice development, and case management. Linda received both a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and a Master of Science degree in Nursing Administration from the Indiana University School of Nursing. She has held certification in Critical Care Nursing. She is a member of the American Telemedicine Association and the Case Management Society of America. Linda serves as a resource for VA staff and facilities with questions concerning the clinical, business or interdisciplinary team processes and practices of Care Coordination. Janet Grady, DrPH, RN

Janet Grady, DrPH, RN, is Principal Investigator on the Office of Naval Research-funded project “Nursing Telehealth Applications Initiative (NTAI),” and is an Associate Professor, University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing and Director of the Nursing Program on the Johnstown, PA campus. Since its inception in 2002, the NTAI has been focused on leveraging technology applications to address the nursing shortage both in practice and educational settings, and Janet has directed related research activities totaling over ten million dollars. As former Associate Academic Dean and Nursing Division Chair at Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, PA, Janet has overseen the development, implementation, and evaluation of a variety of innovative applications of telehealth integrated into the undergraduate nursing curriculum. With a commitment to evidence-based nursing education, Janet has also engaged faculty and students in the conduct of research on learning with simulation. Janet was a collaborator on the 2004-05 International Telenursing Role Survey, and is Co-Chair of the American Telemedicine Association’s Telenursing Special Interest Group. In addition, Janet is a member of the National League for Nursing’s Task Group on Innovation in Nursing Education. Featured in the “Faculty Matters” section of NLN’s journal Perspectives (May/June 2006), Janet has presented her work to regional, national, and international audiences. Janet holds bachelor’s degrees in both nursing and education, a master’s degree in nursing, and a doctorate in health services administration from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.

Teresa McCasky, MBA, BSN

Teresa is the Chief Nursing Strategist-Advanced Technologies for McKesson. In this role Teresa establishes the vision for nursing solutions that will meet the real world clinical, workflow and thoughtflow requirements in healthcare organizations. Teresa looks out to the future to assess the needs of nursing and patients. She leads the strategic plan for McKesson that will enable nurses to provide safer, high quality and efficient care through the use of technology, while enhancing the nurse’s work experience.  Teresa is board certified in nursing informatics, with 17 years experience with healthcare information technology solutions providers. Teresa is a co-chair for the TIGER initiatives virtual demonstration center. She participated in the soon to be released update of the American Nurses Association (2007) The scope and standards of practice for nursing informatics document revision. (Area of focus, The Future of Nursing Informatics)

Elizabeth Oliver Johnson, MSN, BSN, RN

Ms. Johnson is the Vice President of Applied Clinical Informatics for Tenet Healthcare Corporation. In this capacity she has responsibility for the strategic vision and the tactical plan for all clinical systems used throughout the Tenet organization of 70+ provider organizations. Today that suite of products includes over 3,000 clinical applications and 5,000 custom interfaces. Liz speaks nationally and internationally on clinical applications particularly focused on their strategic use as a tool for enhanced patient safety.

With 30 years of healthcare experience, over 20 in executive positions throughout provider organizations, she understands provider operations from every perspective, and the role IT plays in enabling best practices to be deployed by healthcare providers.

W Clive Patrickson PhD, JD, MBA, LLM, BEd

Clive Patrickson is the President of Laerdal Medical for the Americas, and it’s Global Vice President for the Training and Education portfolio. In these roles, Clive has been directly involved in the development of Laerdal’s engagement in the new fields of patient simulation and electronic learning. Laerdal Medical is the world leading developer of high quality education and training equipment for the medical industry, renowned for over 50 years for Resusci Anne, and more recently SimMan. His interest in education stems from his first degree as a Bachelor of Education in the UK, followed by 11 years working for a not-for-profit organization in both the United Kingdom and Australia. He joined Laerdal in 1989, establishing the Company’s subsidiary in Australia, and in 1994 moved to the USA as President and CEO of its American operation. From 2000 to 2003 he was the Director for Asia Pacific, and then moved to Norway as the Global Vice President of Training and Education. Having returned to the USA to head up the development of new partnerships, he once again assumed the Presidency of the Americas Organization in late 2006. His recent academic interests were in gaining an MBA and PhD in business, with specific interest in organizational development and strategic fit. In addition, he took on the challenge of a JD, followed by an LLM, in order to stretch his academic interests in new directions. Clive was born in the UK, is an Australian, but proud to be leading the Laerdal organization in the Americas.
